Fissure Sealants

The grooves that occur naturally in teeth can sometimes be too deep and narrow to allow effective cleaning by a tooth brush. The placement of a fissure sealant involves thoroughly cleaning the tooth grooves before flowing a dental sealant material into the grooves. By sealing the deep areas of the tooth grooves, a fissure sealant allows better cleaning of the tooth and reduces decay risk. Fissure sealants are not a substitute for good cleaning, but they are an excellent aid in lifetime good oral health.
